AmBank Malaysia Pickleball Championship Draws Strong Global Field for Second Edition

SUBANG JAYA — The AmBank Malaysia Pickleball Championship 2026 concluded its three-day run at the PLAYA Racquet Club at PARC Subang, drawing a competitive international field alongside several prominent figures from the regional sporting landscape.

The second edition of the tournament, which took place from June 19 to 21, featured athletes contesting across novice, intermediate, and open divisions. The event offered a total prize pool of RM66,000, underscoring the rapid structural growth and expanding competitive footprint of the sport within Malaysia. The tournament attracted entries representing 10 different nations, including Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, China, Thailand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, and Dominica.

Open Division Results and Standings

The final day of competition finalized the standings across the premier Open 19+ categories. Former national tennis player Khoo Er Yang secured two division titles over the weekend, winning both the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles brackets. Partnering with Farreez Isqandar in the Men’s Doubles Open 19+, Khoo defeated the pairing of Julian Lee Chi Shen and Alexander Tran with a score of 11-6, 11-8 in the final to secure the top podium spot.

Khoo completed his double victory in the Mixed Doubles Open 19+ division alongside partner Wong Joe Yan. The duo defeated Benjamin Ngoi Ming De and Choong Kai Le 11-6, 11-4 in the championship match.

The Women’s Doubles Open 19+ title was claimed by Nesya Tan and Natnicha, who registered a commanding 11-1, 11-4 victory against Kong Li-Ann and Joey Cheng in the final. The women’s bracket also featured a notable competitive appearance by Rio Olympics badminton mixed doubles silver medallist Goh Liu Ying, who partnered with former national squash player Ooi Kah Yan to reach the semi-final stages before finishing fourth overall following the third-place playoff.

Other established sports figures participating across the divisions included Rio silver medallist Chan Peng Soon, former national hockey captain Datuk Mirnawan Nawawi, and former national tennis players Assri Merzuki and Ashaari Zainal Abidin.

Community Infrastructure and Sustainable Initiatives

The event was organized by Score Sports Management with corporate title backing from financial institution AmBank Group. The tournament framework looked to establish a broader, structured competition pathway for local clubs while integrating wellness and community programming adjacent to the match courts.

The tournament village featured a dedicated lifestyle space, the Together-Gather Pop-Up Market Wellness Edition, which hosted public mobility sessions, fitness workshops, and independent food and beverage vendors throughout the weekend.

The technical committee also incorporated targeted sustainability measures into the event infrastructure through a direct partnership with environmental firm Natureloop. Under this green framework, the official tournament trophies were manufactured utilizing recycled plastics and repurposed timber, while event mementos were formed out of salvaged community materials to reduce the overall waste footprint of the competition.
