guardian KL Women Running Festival Surpasses 7,000 Registrations Ahead of October Debut at Dataran Merdeka

KUALA LUMPUR — Over 7,000 participants have registered for the inaugural guardian KL Women Running Festival (KLWRF) 2026, bringing the women-only mass participation event close to its total target capacity of 8,000 runners ahead of its scheduled debut on October 18, 2026, at Dataran Merdeka.

Organized by mass-participation sports event management company SCORE Sports Management with health and beauty retailer guardian Malaysia as title sponsor, the event offers three non-elite distance categories: 5km, 10km, and 15km. The festival structure aims to encourage broad participation among female runners, walkers, and fitness enthusiasts across varied physical capabilities.

Community-Focused Design and Midlife Wellness Advocacy

Unlike traditional competitive road races that focus primarily on podium placement, the guardian KL Women Running Festival is structured to prioritize non-intimidating participation, personal milestones, and social connection.

SCORE Sports Management Chief Executive Officer Patricia Tan highlighted that the underlying philosophy of the festival is to provide an inclusive space where female participants can take on a distance that fits their individual fitness levels without pressure regarding pace or previous race experience.

The scheduling of the event coincides with World Menopause Day on October 18. Title sponsor guardian Malaysia emphasized that the platform will use this alignment to raise public awareness and foster open conversations surrounding midlife female wellness, active aging, and holistic health management.

Priscilla Wu, Managing Director of guardian Malaysia and Brunei, noted that supporting the event aligns with the brand’s ongoing corporate commitment to female health, community engagement, and promoting active daily lifestyles.

Race Day Experience, Celovis Collaboration, and Wellness Activation

To enhance the overall runner experience, organizers are incorporating music stages, fitness sessions, and interactive vendor booths surrounding the Dataran Merdeka start and finish lines.

In place of a standard finisher medal, all participants completing their respective distances will receive a commemorative piece of jewelry—the Bloom Emblem KLWRF Finisher Necklace—created through an official collaboration with Malaysian jewelry brand Celovis. The custom piece was designed around the thematic concept of personal growth and individual achievement.

The broader festival footprint will also extend beyond the main race day through a partnership with female wellness community TogetHER. The group will host the precursor Together Wellness Festival on October 10 and 11, 2026, at the LaLaport BBCC Rooftop.

The two-day preliminary event will feature a female-only Festival Zone offering strength and movement sessions, mindful recovery practices, and a public-facing Wellness Pop-Up Marketplace.

The event is backed by a broad coalition of commercial partners.
