PENANG — The Association of Pickleball Players has officially selected Malaysia as the permanent location for its new Asia Headquarters, anchoring its newly launched continent-wide tournament circuit in the country. The regional sports milestone arrives alongside the unveiling of the upcoming Leapmotor APP Penang Open 2026, which will serve as the first major mid-year competitive anchor for the newly established professional tour.
Scheduled to take place from July 22 to 26 2026 at the Pickle By The Sea venue along Penang’s Gurney Drive, the five-day tournament is structured to combine elite international drawcards with extensive local community activations. The open tournament features distinct competitive divisions spanning from absolute novice brackets to seasoned professional fields, supplemented by active fan zones and dedicated spectator hospitality installations designed to foster broader regional engagement on and off the court.
The decision to establish a permanent administrative base in Malaysia is a direct response to the accelerated grassroots and competitive momentum pickleball has achieved across the Asian continent over the past year. In response to this expanding regional footprint, the international governing body has formalized the APP Asia Tour as a consolidated continental circuit designed to streamline international standard competitions across major Asian economic and sporting hubs. Following the conclusion of the Penang event this July, the tournament circuit is scheduled to transition through consecutive international stops in China, Chinese Taipei, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and India through the remainder of the calendar year.
The rapid infrastructural scale of the continental tour is heavily supported by technical partnerships aimed at long-term athlete development and grassroots growth. Global industry equipment manufacturer Selkirk has committed to establishing the Selkirk Academy in Malaysia in tandem with the tour launch. This development initiative will introduce structured training frameworks, foundational playing clinics, and technical support systems to cultivate local competitive talent and provide certified training pathways for domestic clubs, mirroring the highly social spirit of the main tournament tour.
