Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi 2024 Announces Stage 4 Route Change

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (May 14, 2024): The National Sports Council, organizers of the prestigious Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi cycling race, announced a change to the route for Stage 4.

Originally slated to travel from Kuala Kubu Baru to Genting Highlands, the stage will now take riders from Kuala Kubu Baru to Bentong, covering a distance of 148.9 kilometers.

Safety concerns prompted the change due to ongoing road and slope improvement works along the Genting Highlands route during the race dates of September 29 to October 6, 2024.

The selection of Kuala Kubu Baru and Bentong as replacements ensures minimal disruption to preparations already underway at the start and finish locations, as announced during the Petronas LTDL 2024 Launch Ceremony on March 18, 2024.

Organizers remain committed to the “back-to-back mountain climbs” concept for Stages 3 and 4. Riders in Stage 4 can expect to begin their ascent between kilometers 20 and 40 on Jalan Gap-Bukit Fraser, culminating in a climb to the peak of Bukit Fraser at 1,250 meters.

This revised stage presents an additional challenge for cyclists. Not only will they need exceptional climbing skills, but also strategic maneuvering and technical expertise on the descent to maximize their time gap before tackling the remaining 70 kilometers of flat terrain leading to Bentong.

The 28th edition of the Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi, Asia’s most prestigious cycling race, is scheduled for September 29 to October 6, 2024. The race route features the much-anticipated return of Langkawi Island and, for the first time ever, two stages held in Sarawak. The total race distance will be 1,227.2 kilometers.
