KUALA LUMPUR – The inaugural Gatorade Malaysia Closed 2025, the country’s first-ever official national pickleball championship, concluded this past weekend following four days of intense competition. The event brought together Malaysia’s top-ranked senior and junior players for a significant milestone in the sport’s national progression.
Organized by the Malaysia Pickleball Association (MPA) in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Pickleball Association (KLPA), the tournament was the first to offer official national ranking points, directly contributing to the establishment of Malaysia’s competitive pickleball ladder. The championship featured compelling matches that highlighted the sport’s rapid growth, strategic complexity, and broad appeal across various age groups.

The tournament drew a diverse and competitive field, ranging from promising junior athletes to seasoned veterans, including former national-level sportsmen. Delima Ibrahim, the Competition Chairwoman of the Malaysia Pickleball Association, acknowledged the significance of the partnership. “We’re delighted to have Gatorade supporting the inaugural Malaysia Closed 2025,” she stated. “Their involvement helps grow the sport at all levels, especially from the grassroot and junior levels who are discovering pickleball as a hobby, to competitive athletes refining their skills. Tournament Highlights and Rising Stars
The Gatorade Malaysia Closed 2025 featured categories across junior divisions (Under 12 and Under 15) and various adult divisions. The level of competition was notably high, with fast-paced rallies and strategic play demonstrating the commitment of the national community.
The adult categories saw established athletes competing at the highest level. National stars such as former national hockey player Keevan Raj and ex-SUKMA tennis player Izran Farroukh delivered thrilling matches that captured audience attention.
Senior champions included Mohd Faizal Bin Othman, who secured the Men’s Singles 35+ title. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunities the tournament provided, noting that “Events like these inspire younger players to elevate their game.”
In the Women’s Singles Open, Lim Xin Yu finished as the 2nd Runner-Up. She voiced an ambition shared by many local players: “I dream of pickleball one day being part of SUKMA, the SEA Games, and even the Olympics.”
Attention was also directed toward the junior participants, who demonstrated skill, determination, and passion. Dzarif Dzakwan, the Boys Doubles U18 champion, remarked that being part of the tournament motivates him to keep improving both on and off the court.

The sport boasts over 143,000 active players competing across more than 400 courts nationwide. The strong national tournament schedule, community events, and increasing availability of venues are driving the sport’s popularity across all age groups.
