PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2024 Gears Up for Epic Challenge: Langkawi Returns, Sarawak Debuts

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The legendary island of Langkawi makes a triumphant return to the PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2024 (LTDL 2024) race route, alongside two exciting new stages in Sarawak! This year’s edition, taking place from September 29th to October 6th, 2024, promises a grueling and captivating competition for top cyclists.

Fresh Faces and Familiar Favorites:

The 28th edition of LTDL breaks new ground with Miri and Bintulu in Sarawak becoming first-time hosts, along with the debut of Kulai in Johor. A total of 11 states will witness the thrilling race unfold, showcasing Malaysia’s diverse landscape.

The National Sports Council (MSN), organizers for the second consecutive year, is building on the success of LTDL 2023. The popular “Beat The Heat” theme returns, promising intense competition as riders battle the elements and each other.

Hilly Challenges and Punishing Distances:

Cyclists will face a true test of their endurance with two challenging hilly routes. Stage Three features back-to-back climbs in Cameron Highlands, followed by a grueling ascent of Genting Highlands in Stage Four. Stage Seven, stretching from Miri to Bintulu, boasts a punishing nearly 200km distance, creating a perfect opportunity for daring breakaways and strategic positioning.

Malaysian Teams Aim High:

Three Malaysian cycling teams – the Malaysia National Team, Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG), and Malaysia Professional Cycling (MPC) – are poised to challenge the international competition. Last year, TSG riders shone brightly, with Mohd Aiman Zarif and Nurul Amirul Fakhruddin claiming the King of the Mountain jerseys in Stages One and Two, respectively. The national team’s Nur Aiman Zarif further cemented his dominance by securing the Asia’s Best Rider jersey in Stage Three.
