KUALA LUMPUR — adidas has officially introduced the Hyperboost Edge, a groundbreaking lightweight super-trainer designed to redefine the parameters of daily road running. This launch marks a significant pivot in the industry, moving away from the rigid, carbon-plated obsession of recent years toward a more natural, high-energy return experience that prioritizes foot health and recovery without sacrificing the “super-shoe” feel that modern runners have come to expect.

The Hyperboost Edge represents the first of its kind for the brand: a non-plated, high-stack performance trainer that leverages elite racing technology for the everyday athlete. By combining three distinct proprietary technologies—the Hyperboost Pro midsole, a PRIMEWEAVE upper, and a LIGHTTRAXION outsole—adidas aims to balance extreme comfort with the responsiveness required for everything from recovery jogs to high-mileage marathon preparation.
The Engineering Behind Hyperboost Pro
At the core of the Hyperboost Edge is the new Hyperboost Pro foam. This material is a direct descendant of the brand’s record-breaking racing foams but has been reformulated specifically for durability and consistent energy return across varied training intensities. Unlike traditional racing shoes that rely on a stiff carbon plate to provide “pop,” the Hyperboost Pro foam works naturally with the foot’s gait cycle. This creates a propulsive ride that feels energetic but remains flexible enough to keep the foot’s intrinsic muscles engaged.

The shoe features an aggressive 45mm rearfoot stack height and a 6mm drop, offering a maximalist cushioning experience that protects the joints from the repetitive impact of Malaysian road surfaces. Despite this substantial amount of foam, the shoe remains exceptionally light, weighing in at just 255 grams.
Validated by Science and Research
The development of the Hyperboost Edge was not a solitary effort. The Hyperboost Pro foam was refined using extensive laboratory testing and consumer research conducted in collaboration with the University of Cologne. In a comprehensive study involving 60 runners, the Hyperboost Edge was tested against current market-leading trainers across several key performance metrics.

The results were definitive: 77% of participants reported a perception of softer, more protective cushioning, while 73% preferred the energy return provided by the new foam formulation. More than half of the test group noted a preference for the overall comfort of the non-plated design over their current daily trainers, establishing Hyperboost Pro as a new benchmark in performance footwear technology.
Aesthetic Innovation and Material Design
Beyond the foam, the Hyperboost Edge introduces a progressive design language. The PRIMEWEAVE upper is a super-soft, hyper-light woven material that provides a secure lockdown without the need for heavy structural overlays. Integrated heel pods provide targeted stability around the ankle, ensuring a comfortable fit that remains secure through the late stages of a long run.

Visually, the shoe breaks with tradition by moving the iconic three stripes from the upper to the stacked midsole. This intentional design choice highlights the “performance engine” of the shoe. The outsole features the newly designed LIGHTTRAXION material, which draws from adidas’ racing DNA to provide high grip on wet or uneven surfaces—a critical feature for navigating tropical weather conditions.

“We wanted to bring something truly transformative to runners,” said Patrick Nava, GM of adidas Running. “Hyperboost Edge is where the Power of Three—cushioning, energy, and lightness—comes to life seamlessly in one shoe. By removing the plate, we’ve created a trainer that supports the runner’s natural gait while still providing the elite-level protection needed for high mileage. This is the beginning of a new era for our performance portfolio.“

Following this initial release, adidas plans to drop new seasonal colorways starting May 1, 2026, as the brand continues to expand the Hyperboost Pro ecosystem.
