SCORE Marathon 2026

SCORE Marathon 2026 Set to Become Malaysia’s Largest Running Event with 50,000 Participants

The Malaysian running landscape is preparing for a record-breaking milestone as the SCORE Marathon 2026 by AIA Vitality expands its capacity to accommodate 50,000 runners. Following a surge in demand that saw initial slots filled rapidly, organizers have released an additional 300 spots for the event, which is officially vying for a place in the Malaysia Book of Records as the nation’s largest running event.

Scheduled for July 18 and 19 in Putrajaya, the 2026 edition marks the first time the race will be held over two days. The 5km and 10km categories will take place on Saturday, while the more demanding 21km and 42km distances are slated for Sunday. This expansion reflects a decade of growth for the event, which began as a community run of fewer than 4,000 participants in 2014.

Competitive Field and Notable Debuts

The upcoming marathon has attracted high-profile interest from both the political and professional sporting spheres. Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Datuk Chang Lih Kang, has confirmed he will attempt his first-ever half marathon (21km) after completing the 10km distance last year.

In the elite category, the field will be headlined by regional long-distance stars, including Singapore’s two-time SEA Games gold medalist Soh Rui Yong, Malaysia’s Muhaizar Mohamed, and national half-marathon record holder Prabudass Krishnan. The event’s status as a World Athletics Road Race Label event for the second consecutive year ensures that the course meets international standards for accuracy and quality.

Integration of Technology and Sustainability

Organizers are placing a heavy emphasis on digital innovation to manage the scale of 50,000 participants. The event will utilize the HeyJom system for race pack collection and implement AI-powered facial recognition software. This technology allows runners to instantly retrieve their race photos from a database of thousands, significantly improving the post-race experience.

Patricia Tan, CEO of SCORE Sports Management, noted that the event’s evolution mirrors a shift in how Malaysians approach the sport—moving from casual participation toward a focus on performance and long-term health. The event also introduces the “SCORE Double Challenge,” where participants can opt to compete in races across both days.

A Growing Partner Ecosystem

The 2026 marathon is supported by a wide-ranging partner lineup, including AIA Vitality, which enters its fifth year as the presenting sponsor. This year also sees the addition of adidas as the official sportswear partner. Other key technical partners include EVA Air, Etika, and Aminovital, forming a support system that covers aviation, hydration, and nutrition for the international field, which expects runners from over 55 countries.
