SELANGOR — The Selangor Basketball Association (SBA) and Under Armour Malaysia have officially entered into a partnership aimed at strengthening the development pathway for young athletes in the state. Through a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Under Armour Malaysia has been appointed as the official program sponsor for the SBA’s youth development initiatives, specifically targeting the U15 and U17 divisions.
As part of this collaboration, Under Armour Malaysia will provide essential basketball footwear and equipment to the squads as they prepare for the upcoming Malaysia National Basketball Championships. The partnership is designed to equip young players with high-quality resources, allowing them to compete with confidence at the state and national levels.
Empowering the Next Generation
Guided by the brand’s “Protect This House” ethos, the partnership focuses on creating safe and encouraging training environments for youth. Under Armour’s involvement reinforces a commitment to community-driven sports, ensuring that talented young players have the support necessary to refine their skills and pursue excellence in team sports.
The SBA U15 and U17 programs are central to the state’s athlete identification structure. Players are selected through rigorous state-level competitions before undergoing further assessment. The final 15 players in each age category will be chosen to represent Selangor on the national stage.
Mentorship from National Leadership
A key component of this partnership is the involvement of Tan Ee Shya, the National Women’s Basketball Head Coach and an Under Armour ambassador. Serving as the Secretary General on the SBA board, Tan will provide direct mentorship and guidance to the U15 and U17 squads. Her extensive experience at the elite level is expected to significantly enhance the competitive readiness of the athletes.
