Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 18 September 2023 – Tourism Malaysia has been announced as the latest main sponsor for the 27th edition of the PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL), which will take place from September 23-30, 2023. The national tourism agency will also be sponsoring the King of Mountain jersey, one of the most prestigious jerseys in the race.

Tourism Malaysia’s sponsorship is worth RM1 million, and the agency will also be providing various promotional programmes such as traditional performances at all starting venues, invitations of “influencers” from abroad, and various domestic and international promotions.
Tourism Malaysia is Also The Sponsor of The King of Mountain Jersey.
“We are very grateful to Tourism Malaysia for coming forward to sponsor the King of Mountain jersey at LTdL 2023,” said Dato’ Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, Director General of the National Sports Council (MSN), which is the organizer of the race. “The King of Mountain category is a very unique and popular jersey in that many big races like the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana, the best climbers of the various teams fought fiercely not only in the big climbs but also worked out strategies to win points all along the route.
“We are confident that through the promotional programmes that Tourism Malaysia will be putting in place, LTdL 2023 will be livelier and well attended. We are also confident that the race will be a great platform to promote Malaysia as a truly world-class cycling destination.”
Dato’ Dr Ammar Abd Ghafar, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, said that the agency is excited to be a part of LTdL 2023. “Our sponsorship decision is based on the whole sponsorship return package which is quite complete, especially the opportunity to promote the ‘Malaysia Truly Asia’ brand to the whole world, not only limited to the attractions of various cultures, locations and tourist centres but also featuring a prosperous, developed Malaysia and progressive to help the Government attract investment and international trade to our country.”
“We also appreciate the opportunity given by the organisers as the main sponsor with the right to the polka dot jersey because the leader of the King of Mountain category is very popular in every Grand Tours, and the climb to Genting Highlands is also recognised as one of the toughest climbs in world cycling.” he said.
LTdL 2023 will start in Kerteh, Terengganu and pass through 11 of the 12 states in the Peninsula before ending in Kuala Lumpur on September 30. A total of 22 teams, including two WorldTeams, eight ProTeams, 11 Continental teams and the Malaysian national team, will compete in the race.
