Cameron Highlands – David Max Poole of Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL delivered a stunning performance on Tuesday, capturing the stage win and overall lead in the PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2024. The 21-year-old outclassed his rivals on the demanding 170.3km climb to Cameron Highlands, crossing the finish line in 4 hours, 24 minutes, and 34 seconds.
Poole’s victory was a testament to his exceptional climbing abilities and tactical acumen. He expertly timed his attack on the final ascent, distancing himself from the chasing pack and securing a comfortable margin of victory. His triumph also propelled him to the top of the overall standings, displacing Gleb Syritsa of Astana Qazaqstan Team.

Harold Martin Lopez of Astana Qazaqstan finished second in the stage, while Thomas Pesenti of JCL Team UKYO claimed third place. Malaysian rider Muhammad Syawal Mazlin from Pro Cycling (MPC) was the best local finisher, placing 44th.
“This is a dream come true,” Poole said after the race. “To win a stage and take the overall lead in such a prestigious race is beyond my expectations. I’m incredibly grateful to my team for their support and belief in me.”
In addition to the stage win and overall lead, Poole also claimed the Green Jersey, awarded to the points leader, and the Polka Dot Jersey, awarded to the King of the Mountains. His dominant performance solidified his position as one of the top contenders for the overall title.

The overall standings now see Poole leading the way, followed by Harold Martin Lopez and Gleb Syritsa. Equipo Kern Pharma maintained their lead in the team classification, while JCL Team UKYO continued to dominate the Asian category.
