Langkawi Celebrates a Decade of Grit as IRONMAN Malaysia Returns for 10th Anniversary

KUALA LUMPUR – IRONMAN Malaysia is set to mark a significant milestone as it returns to Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah, for its 10th edition from October 30 to November 2, 2025. This year, the event is celebrating a decade of endurance, community-building, and world-class triathlon competition, firmly establishing the island as one of Asia’s premier long-distance sports destinations.

Widely recognized as one of the most demanding full-distance triathlons on the global circuit, the race challenges athletes with a grueling 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride, and a 42.2km marathon run, all under the intense tropical heat and humidity. The popular IRONMAN 70.3 Langkawi, featuring half the distance, will also return for its seventh consecutive year, providing a challenging yet accessible experience for a broader range of triathletes.

A Global Field with Strong Home Representation

The 10th anniversary race weekend will unite a truly international field.

  • A total of 1,500 athletes are confirmed to participate in the full IRONMAN Malaysia.
  • These athletes represent 56 countries, underscoring Langkawi’s magnetic global appeal.
  • Malaysia boasts a strong home presence, with 500 local athletes competing across both the full IRONMAN Malaysia and IRONMAN 70.3 Langkawi distances.

The event’s scale extends beyond the competitors, creating a festive atmosphere powered by 5,000 spectators and the dedication of 1,250 volunteers.

Setting the Standard for Endurance

Over the past decade, IRONMAN Malaysia has consistently delivered elite performances, showcasing the event’s competitive stature. The course records remain a testament to the athletes who have conquered Langkawi’s challenging terrain:

  • The Men’s Course Record: 8:10:24, set by Brazil’s Fernando Tolda in 2024.
  • The Women’s Course Record: 9:13:08, clocked by Australia’s Regan Hollioake in the same year.
  • Local excellence is also recognized, with Fawwaz Fauzi (10:47:42) and Pow Chia Ling (11:33:41) holding the current Malaysian best times for men and women, respectively, reflecting the burgeoning strength of the local triathlon community.

More Than a Race: Nurturing Local Triathletes

Beyond the competition, IRONMAN Malaysia has been a pivotal force in developing Malaysia’s triathlon scene. It serves as an essential platform, inspiring first-timers and giving homegrown athletes the critical opportunity to compete on home soil.

This 10th edition is more than just a race—it marks a decade of community building, global exposure, and shared endurance,” said CG Lim, IRONMAN Asia Regional Director. “IRONMAN Malaysia has grown into a dream-chasing platform for Malaysians, many of whom have earned their coveted slots to the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii—the pinnacle of long-distance triathlon worldwide. To qualify for Kona through a home event in Langkawi is an incredible achievement that symbolises how far the local triathlon community has progressed.
