Kuala Lumpur – ASICS Malaysia continues to solidify its commitment to grassroots sports development, hosting two high-profile badminton tournaments aimed at nurturing young athletes. The ASICS MASISWA Badminton Tournament and the ASICS Badminton University Cup 2024 recently concluded at IOI Sports Centre, Putrajaya, spotlighting Malaysia’s up-and-coming badminton stars.

The ASICS MASISWA Badminton Tournament, held from 19–21 November, showcased 145 players from 21 private universities competing in singles and doubles categories. Meanwhile, the ASICS Badminton University Cup, running from 22–24 November, featured 20 teams from 15 universities in a dynamic team-event format. These tournaments not only provided platforms for young talents but also emphasized ASICS’s values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and holistic well-being.
Thrilling Matches and Standout Performances
The MASISWA Badminton Tournament delivered riveting moments. In the mixed doubles final, Ryan Chang Zi Xuan and Sik Xiao Hui claimed victory in a tight match, defeating Eskil Khaw Yong Siang and Elaine Ng Yee Mun with a dramatic 21-14, 19-21, 22-20 finish.
Men’s singles saw Sean Ngu Ze Xi dominate with a 21-12, 21-7 win over Eng Ler Xian. Women’s singles champion Kasturi Radhakrishnan secured her title with a commanding 21-19, 21-10 performance against Selina Loh Hor Yan.
In doubles categories, Dylan Ooi Ding Sheng and Eskil Khaw Yong Xiang emerged victorious in the men’s doubles after a hard-fought 20-22, 21-10, 21-16 win against Leong Yik Hung and Tan Kai Shiuan. Elaine Ng Yee Mun and Lim Qi Ling sealed the women’s doubles title, defeating Sik Xiao Hui and Wong Kha Moon 21-11, 21-18.
The ASICS Badminton University Cup delivered equally thrilling action. UCSI University emerged victorious, with standout performances by Ng Tze Chian, younger brother of national men’s singles star Ng Tze Yong. Partnering with Sik Xiao Hui, Tze Chian clinched the mixed doubles title with a decisive 21-16, 21-10 win. UCSI secured the championship with a 2-0 victory over UTAR in the final.

Both tournaments awarded winners a share of RM10,900 in cash prizes and exclusive ASICS merchandise, further demonstrating the brand’s dedication to supporting young athletes. Participants also engaged with ASICS’s latest innovations, including its advanced performance footwear, and gained insights into the benefits of the OneASICS membership programme.
