AmBank Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Inaugural Malaysia Pickleball Championship

Kuala Lumpur – AmBank Group is marking its 50th anniversary with a vibrant celebration of community, culture, and youth empowerment through the launch of the inaugural AmBank Malaysia Pickleball Championship 2025. This exciting tournament, themed ‘Malaysia Kita’, will take place from Friday, May 30th to Sunday, June 1st, 2025, aiming to bring together 500 pickleball and sports enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

Powered by SCORE Sports Management and hosted at Pickle Nation, the official venue, the championship seeks to tap into the burgeoning popularity of pickleball both in Malaysia and globally. Driven by the spirit of unity and Malaysian identity, the event aims to promote and celebrate the nation’s diverse culture and values, aligning with AmBank’s commitment to fostering positive impact and overall well-being among Malaysians.

Shazman Shahid, Head of Group Corporate Communications & Marketing, AmBank Group, emphasized the significance of the event in their 50th-anniversary celebrations. “We want to celebrate our 50th anniversary through an event that brings ‘Malaysia Kita’ together in action through sport and community. This championship aims to unite an active community through a sport that’s fun and uplifting. We hope this platform can champion healthier lifestyles, nurture youth sportsmanship and highlight the spirit of ‘Malaysia Kita’,” he said, expressing hope for AmBank’s continuous association with pickleball as a presenter of the sport.

Patricia Tan, Chief Executive Officer of SCORE, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the shared values of accessibility, inclusivity, and inspiration. “SCORE is proud to welcome AmBank as the presenting partner of the AmBank Malaysia Pickleball Championship 2025 — an exciting addition to SCORE’s portfolio of flagship mass participation events. This milestone event brings together Malaysians of all ages and backgrounds to discover and celebrate pickleball. More than just a competition, it is a celebration of movement, unity, and the power of sport to spark real, positive change across our communities,” she stated.

Empowering the Next Generation Through Sport:

A key highlight of the championship’s program, scheduled for June 1st, 2025, is a dedicated 2-hour youth coaching session. This initiative aims to encourage young Malaysians to embrace an active lifestyle through sport. Experienced coaches and players will lead the session, which will include basic pickleball drills, engaging exhibition matches, and team-based activities tailored for beginners. This activation is designed to introduce pickleball in a fun and inclusive environment, fostering confidence, social connections, and lifelong healthy habits among young participants.

Driving Sustainability On and Off the Court:

Reflecting AmBank’s broader commitment to sustainability, the championship will also promote eco-conscious practices. Initiatives focusing on waste reduction and recycling in sports are being explored, including a potential sneaker recycling program. This program aims to repurpose used sports shoes into materials for community running tracks or court surfaces, raising awareness about circular design and environmental responsibility. By encouraging Malaysians to rethink waste, AmBank aims to use sport as a platform to promote more sustainable and socially responsible values.
