Skechers International Pickleball Tournament Hits Record 1,282 Entries in Malaysia

The fourth edition of the Skechers International Pickleball Tournament – Malaysia Edition 2026 concluded last Sunday at the Tomaz Pickleball Club in Subang Jaya, marking its largest installment to date. The event saw 1,282 players from 14 countries compete across 29 categories, representing a 38% year-on-year growth in participation.

With a total prize pool of RM100,000, the three-day tournament (May 8–10) utilized the Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) system for all matches. This ensured that over 1,600 contested matches contributed to the players’ global ratings and World Pickleball Championship (WPC) qualification points. Participating athletes traveled from nations including Australia, China, Japan, the USA, and several Southeast Asian neighbors to compete in the Subang Jaya hub.

Junior Category Signals Grassroots Growth

A significant milestone for the 2026 edition was the reintroduction of the Junior (U18) category. The move toward youth development saw 34 registrations, with the youngest competitor aged just 11. Dzarif Dzakwan B Azizul Azhar emerged as a standout in the new division, securing both the Boys’ Singles title and the Doubles U18 (Open Gender) title alongside his brother, Dzikri Dzakwan.

The inclusion of a junior bracket aims to establish a structured pathway for younger players to transition from recreational play into a competitive, rated environment. Stephanie Chang, Senior General Manager of Skechers Malaysia, noted that the tournament’s evolution reflects pickleball’s growing status as a multi-generational sport in Malaysia.

Elite Performances and Professional Milestones

The tournament also highlighted the progression of Malaysia’s elite pickleball talent. Among the featured competitors were Skechers athletes Colin Wong, Delia Arnold, and Toi Sieu Ee. Wong, who recently earned a spot in the UPA Asia Trailblazers Class of 2026 to compete on the professional circuit in the United States, competed in the Men’s Doubles 19+ Open.
