The rapid rise of pickleball in Malaysia has received a significant boost as CelcomDigi Berhad, through its Arena CelcomDigi platform, announced a dedicated fund of up to RM1 million to develop the sport’s local ecosystem. The initiative, known as the CelcomDigi Pickleball Fund, is designed to make the sport more accessible by helping local businesses and residential associations upgrade and expand their facilities.
As pickleball continues to trend as one of the most popular active-lifestyle sports in the country, the need for high-quality, safe, and well-equipped courts has become a priority. This fund aims to bridge that gap, ensuring that communities across Malaysia have conducive environments to play, connect, and stay active.
Supporting Local Court Operators
The fund is structured to provide tiered support based on the size and needs of existing pickleball facilities. By offering both cash and in-kind contributions, CelcomDigi is targeting the “backbone” of the sport—the local operators who manage the spaces where Malaysians gather to play.

The funding categories are divided as follows:
- RM5,000 for smaller facilities featuring three or fewer courts.
- RM10,000 for mid-sized facilities with four to six courts.
- RM15,000 for larger hubs with seven or more courts.
This financial assistance is intended for a variety of improvements, ranging from upgrading court surfaces and lighting to enhancing general amenities and equipment. By supporting these operators, the initiative ensures that players have access to modern, well-maintained spaces that encourage long-term participation in the sport.
Strengthening Community Connections
For many Malaysians, sports are about more than just physical fitness; they are a vital way to build community. CelcomDigi’s Head of Brand and Marketing Services, Chan May Ling, emphasized that this initiative is rooted in the idea of connectivity. She noted that pickleball has a unique way of bringing people together through friendly play and shared experiences.

The goal of the fund extends beyond physical infrastructure. It is about creating a safer and more inclusive ecosystem where players of all skill levels feel comfortable returning to their local courts. By improving the playing environment, the initiative helps local businesses continue to serve their communities effectively while fostering a culture of health and wellness nationwide.
The First Recipient and How to Apply
The rollout of the fund has already begun, with Pickle Mines, located in The Mines, officially named as the first facility to receive support under this initiative. This serves as a starting point for a phased disbursement plan that will eventually see courts across the country benefit from the RM1 million allocation.

Submission for the fund is currently open to all eligible pickleball court operators in Malaysia, including private business owners and residential committees. This inclusive approach ensures that the benefits of the fund can reach both urban hubs and smaller residential pockets where the sport is starting to take root.
Interested operators are encouraged to apply via the official Arena CelcomDigi website. As the sport continues to evolve from a niche activity into a mainstream favorite, initiatives like this provide the necessary foundation for Malaysia to become a regional leader in the pickleball community. By investing in the infrastructure of “popular sports,” CelcomDigi is playing a key role in making active lifestyles fun and accessible for all Malaysians. Whether you are a seasoned player or someone looking to pick up a paddle for the first time, the future of the local pickleball scene looks brighter and more accessible than ever.
