PUTRAJAYA – The world’s premier run-bike-run series is set to make a triumphant return to the administrative capital as organizers officially announced the 2026 edition of POWERMAN Malaysia. Scheduled for September 18 to 20, 2026, the event marks a new chapter for the sport in the region, introducing a fresh organizational structure and a strategic rebranding of the host city.

In a significant shift for the event’s local management, Unikorn Events Sdn Bhd has been appointed as the new license holder and lead organizer. The move follows a decision by the International POWERMAN Association (IPA) to transition the event’s stewardship to Unikorn Events for a three-year period, with a clear mandate to elevate the participant and spectator experience to unprecedented heights.
The Rise of POWERMAN City
A cornerstone of the 2026 announcement is the formalization of a strategic partnership with Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPJ), which serves as the Venue Sponsor. In a move that cements the city’s status as a global hub for endurance sports, Putrajaya has been officially designated as “POWERMAN City.” This branding reflects the deep integration between the race and its iconic backdrop, utilizing the city’s wide boulevards and scenic bridges to create a world-class course for both elite and amateur athletes.

Speaking at the launch, Niklas Yong, Chief Executive Officer of Unikorn Events Sdn Bhd, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to helm the prestigious series. “Our objective is to elevate this event to the next level—not just for the athletes, but for the spectators, family, and the local community,” Yong stated. He revealed that the 2026 edition is targeting a massive field of 4,500 to 5,000 participants, signaling a strong recovery and growth for the multi-sport scene in Malaysia.
Technical Upgrades and Global Prestige
The 2026 race will maintain its status as a critical stop on the global circuit, attracting international talent alongside a robust local contingent. To foster more competitive racing across the board, organizers are introducing five-year age categories for both the Classic and Short distance events. This change is designed to provide a more level playing field, encouraging athletes of all ages to test their limits.

John Raadschelders, President of the International POWERMAN Association, highlighted the unique draw of the Malaysian leg. “It is hard to explain the feeling of coming to Malaysia, but it is different. The energy here, the way people prepare and push themselves, it is a true atmosphere,” Raadschelders remarked. He noted that the planned improvements in race quality and safety for 2026 ensure that athletes can focus purely on performance.
Economic and Community Impact
Beyond the competition, POWERMAN Malaysia 2026 is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy. Mohamad Sujairi Ishak, Deputy Director of Sports and Recreation at PPJ, noted that the event serves as a signature showcase for Putrajaya, driving growth in the hospitality and food and beverage sectors. Additionally, the introduction of the POWERMAN Malaysia Clinic aims to engage the local community, offering training exposure to newcomers and promoting an active lifestyle.
