PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia – The POWERMAN Malaysia 2025 duathlon, presented by OMODA | JAECOO, concluded its 20th anniversary event at Dataran Putrajaya from June 20 to 22. The three-day competition, which is described as one of the world’s largest duathlons, saw participants compete across running and cycling segments through the streets of Malaysia’s administrative capital.

The event recorded over 4,500 participants from 30 countries, a significant response that marks a new participation high for POWERMAN Malaysia. The duathlon format, involving a run-bike-run sequence, offered two main distance categories: the Classic distance, which comprised a 10km run, 60km bike, and another 10km run, and the Short distance, consisting of a 5km run, 30km bike, and a concluding 5km run. Additionally, three POWERKIDS categories were held for younger participants aged 6 to 15.

A notable aspect of this year’s event was the participation of over 20 children from BikeIsAble, a local initiative dedicated to supporting children with severe physical disabilities. These young athletes completed the course with assistance from caregivers, friends, and family, who pushed them in specially adapted buggies. Their participation highlighted themes of inclusion and community support within the event.

The flag-off ceremonies for the POWERMAN Classic and Short categories were attended by Y.Bhg Dato’ TPr. Fadlun Bin Mak Ujud, President of Putrajaya Corporation, and Emily Lek, Vice President of OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia. The JAECOO J7 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) was utilized as the official lead car for the duathlon.

In the Classic male open category, Raymund Torio from the Philippines secured first place with a finishing time of 2 hours, 50 minutes, and 59 seconds (02:50:59). For the Classic female open category, Malaysia’s Esther Joy Chen claimed the top position, completing the race in 3 hours, 11 minutes, and 40 seconds (03:11:40).
Jeffrey Ross, General Manager and Race Director of POWERMAN Malaysia, commented on the event’s two-decade milestone. He noted the consistent growth of the event since its inception in 2002, when it had approximately 200 participants. Ross highlighted that approximately 40% of this year’s participants were first-time entrants, reflecting the event’s expanding reach. He further stated that the event aimed to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship among the thousands of participants navigating the course in Putrajaya.

Emily Lek, Vice President of OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia, extended congratulations to all duathletes in both the POWERMAN and POWERKIDS categories. She observed the performances of both recreational and elite athletes across all age groups, noting their perseverance during the run-bike-run course.
