KUALA LUMPUR – Veteran cyclist Mohd Harrif Saleh, or affectionately known as ‘Mamat’, is determined to defy age and make his mark in this year’s Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL). Despite turning 35, Harrif believes his experience and passion for cycling will propel him to achieve remarkable results in the prestigious race.
“Age is just a number. I still have the energy and drive to continue cycling at a high level,” declared Harrif. Inspired by the legendary Mark Cavendish, who has consistently delivered top-notch performances at 39, Harrif aims to emulate his achievements.
“Cavendish’s success has been a great motivation for me. If I’m selected to represent Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team (TSG), I will give it my all to contribute to the team’s success,” he added.
Harrif holds a special place in LTdL history, having made a record 14 appearances in the race. This feat surpassed the previous record held by Iran’s Ghader Mizbani. Joining Harrif in the exclusive club of LTdL veterans are two former Malaysian national riders, Annuar Manan and Loh Sea Keong, with 12 appearances each.

“I’m incredibly proud to have made history as the rider with the most appearances in LTdL. I started cycling in the race when I was 20, and if I’m given the opportunity to participate again this year, it would be a truly special moment,” Harrif shared.
As a renowned sprint specialist, Harrif has a proven track record of success in LTdL, securing three stage victories throughout his career. He is determined to continue his winning streak and make a lasting impact on the race.
With 22 teams, including three World Teams, competing for the LTdL title this year, the competition is expected to be fierce. The 28th edition of LTdL will take place from September 29 to October 6, covering a total distance of 1,227.2 kilometers across eight stages. The iconic island of Langkawi will once again feature in the route, along with two new stages in Miri and Bintulu, Sarawak.
