KUALA LUMPUR – The SCORE Marathon 2025 by AIA Vitality, one of Malaysia’s large-scale mass-participation running events, is scheduled to take place on July 13. The event has attracted significant attention, with 33,000 runners registered in less than a month, marking a new record for the marathon’s registration numbers. These participants represent over 48 countries, indicating an international draw for the event.
The marathon has also received recognition as a World Athletics Label Road Race and has been designated as a qualifying event for the Abbott World Marathon Majors. This status signifies that the race adheres to specific international standards for course measurement, organization, and timing, allowing participants to use their finishing times for potential entry into some of the world’s most prominent marathons. Furthermore, the SCORE Marathon is affiliated with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), an organization that works with World Athletics to foster distance running globally and ensure races meet international standards. The event also receives support from the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports, further solidifying its national significance.
Scheduled against the backdrop of Putrajaya, the race route will guide runners through the city’s boulevards, a scenic bridge, and various architectural landmarks. The course is certified globally, ensuring its compliance with international standards for competitive road races. The event offers four distinct race categories: 5KM, 10KM, 21KM (Half Marathon), and 42KM (Full Marathon), catering to a range of running abilities and objectives.
Patricia Tan, Chief Executive Officer of Score Sports Management, commented on the event’s growth trajectory. She noted that SCORE Marathon began in 2014 with 3,674 participants. By 2024, this number had increased to over 24,253 runners. The current registration figure of 33,000 for the 2025 event represents the highest participation in the marathon’s history. The theme for this year’s event is “CONQUER YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE,” a message intended to encourage participants in their personal athletic pursuits.
AIA Vitality is serving as the Presenting Sponsor for the fourth consecutive year. This continued collaboration highlights an ongoing association between the event and the health program, aligning with the promotion of active lifestyles. Chee Foong Wai, Chief Marketing Officer of AIA Malaysia, acknowledged the participation milestone, indicating it reflects a growing engagement in active living.
The SCORE Marathon has also placed an emphasis on sustainability initiatives. In its 2024 edition, the event reported recycling 1,150 kg of plastic, which was stated to be equivalent to 46,320 plastic bottles. For the 2025 event, this commitment to environmental responsibility has been expanded through additional green initiatives. These include collaborations with partners for eco-conscious participant entitlements.
Specifically, the event has partnered with Pressio, a sportswear brand that utilizes bio-based yarns in its products, as the official supplier for event and finisher tees. Additionally, the medals for the 2025 marathon are crafted from recycled materials, a result of a collaboration with Natureloop. These efforts aim to reduce the environmental impact associated with large-scale sporting events and encourage awareness among participants regarding sustainable practices.
The SCORE Marathon 2025 by AIA Vitality is supported by a range of partners and sponsors. EVA AIR has joined as a Silver Sponsor, with the 5KM category officially named the EVA AIR 5KM course, reflecting the event’s increasing international reach. Counterpain is also involved as the Official Topical Analgesic Sponsor. Long-standing partners include Pressio as the Official Apparel Partner, N8 as the Official Energy Gel, ATF Sport Taping as the Official Sports Tape Partner, and Heyjom facilitating event registrations.
