KUALA LUMPUR – New Balance has officially launched the 1080v15, the latest iteration of its flagship everyday running shoe, marking a significant technological shift for the brand in Malaysia. Moving away from its long-standing Fresh Foam X platform, the v15 introduces Infinion Foam, a new supercritical midsole technology designed to provide a more resilient and energetic ride for the “everyday” runner.
The launch was commemorated at the New Balance Run Hub KLCC, where the brand transformed the retail space into a community-centric “Run Hub.” The activation, running from January 14 to 25, emphasizes New Balance’s commitment to consistency and wellbeing over the high-stakes, speed-driven narratives that have dominated the performance running market in recent years.
Technical Evolution: The Rise of Infinion Foam
The 1080 series has historically been the “gold standard” for neutral, high-cushion trainers. With the v15, New Balance has sought to modernize the experience by utilizing a supercritical foaming process. This nitrogen-infused Infinion Foam addresses a common critique of high-stack trainers: the tendency for foam to “bottom out” or lose its life after high mileage.
According to technical specifications, the 1080v15 features a 39.5mm heel stack and a 33.5mm forefoot stack, maintaining a 6mm drop. Despite the substantial underfoot protection, the shoe remains impressively light, weighing approximately 261g for a standard men’s size. The upper has also been overhauled with a new circular knit mesh and molded contour details, offering improved breathability and a “lifestyle-forward” aesthetic that transitions seamlessly from the track to the street.
Community-Driven Activations at Run Hub KLCC
Rather than a traditional product drop, New Balance has invited the Malaysian running community to participate in the 1080 Collective Run. The goal is for local runners to collectively clock 1,080 kilometers during the activation period at the Run Hub KLCC.
Participants can trial the 1080v15 on-site, with their mileage contributed to the total. Once the community hits the target, all contributors will be eligible to redeem a Limited Edition 1080 Tee. Additional experiential highlights include:
- The 30-Run Journal: Runners who purchase the 1080v15 receive a specialized journal to document their progress, with a customization workshop available at the KLCC location.
- The 1080 Route: A series of checkpoints involving a 3D footscan, a shoe trial, and social media engagement, rewarding participants with exclusive merchandise and treats.
- Ritual Wall: An interactive installation where runners share their “Running Rituals,” contributing to a collective story of movement and consistency.
