PETALING JAYA, Malaysia – In an unexpected but heartwarming collaboration, global sports brand adidas and local dessert cafe dáo have teamed up to launch a unique capsule collection. Themed “You Had Us at dáo,” the partnership is a sweet serving of originality and nostalgia, marking adidas’s first-ever collaboration with a Malaysian food and beverage brand.

The collection merges the worlds of sport and local food, offering a lighthearted and functional line of apparel and accessories for the entire family. It features adidas’s signature athleisure designs infused with dáo’s quirky characters and vibrant aesthetic, creating a truly unique blend of two distinct brands.

This is our first-ever partnership with a Malaysian F&B brand, and I don’t think we could’ve asked for a better partner,” said Preston Page, Country Manager of adidas Malaysia. “It’s not every day that sport meets soy. When we first connected with dáo, we saw more than just a well-loved local dessert. We saw the shared values of joy, authenticity, and a strong local voice in dáo that brings people together, and we knew we were on the right track.

A Shared Passion for Heritage and Community

Founded in 2018 by siblings Carmen, Joe, and Kelly Lau, dáo is a beloved local brand that has brought a modern twist to the traditional Malaysian dessert, tau fu fah. Marketing Manager Kelly Lau explained that the partnership with adidas was a natural fit due to their shared commitment to preserving important heritage. “We are a brand that embraces the heritage of local desserts, which is why we were so excited to work with adidas, the sportswear brand who stands on a legacy of rich heritage in sports, for this monumental collaboration,” she said.

The campaign’s tagline, “You Had Us at dáo,” captures the instant connection Malaysians feel when they encounter something familiar and authentic. The collaboration celebrates this connection, proving that a global icon can embrace and be enriched by local flavor. The launch event at dáo Damansara Jaya brought together adidas Creators and dessert fans, providing a full sensory experience that paid playful tribute to culture and roots.

Interactive Pop-ups and Exclusive Offers

To give consumers a memorable and engaging experience, adidas will be recreating dáo’s iconic dessert cart. However, instead of serving tau fu fah, the mobile pop-up will offer a chance to experience the new apparel collection. The cart will be moving to three different adidas stores over the coming weeks:

  • August 20 – 26: adidas Brand Concept Store, 1 Utama
  • August 27 – September 2: adidas Home of Sports, Mid Valley Megamall
  • September 3 – 9: adidas Performance Store, Pavilion Bukit Jalil

As an added incentive, consumers who purchase a minimum of two items from the collection will receive an exclusive plushie. Additionally, a special weekend-only promotion at the pop-up locations will give shoppers a free soymilk with any collection item purchase, available from August 23 to September 7 while stocks last.

The adidas x dáo collection is available from August 20 via the adidas website, the adidas mobile app, and at seven adidas retail stores across Malaysia, including the adidas Brand Center in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and adidas Home of Sports in The Exchange TRX.
