KL Gears Up for Largest OCBC Cycle KL Yet: 3,000 Cyclists to Conquer 50km City Ride

Kuala Lumpur – Kuala Lumpur is set to become a cyclist’s haven on Sunday, April 27, 2025, as the eighth edition of OCBC Cycle KL is poised to welcome over 3,000 participants from 30 countries. This year’s premier mass cycling event in the city centre promises to be the largest and longest in its history, featuring a remarkable 50-kilometre ride on fully closed roads.

The event route was unveiled by ACP Mohd Zamzuri Bin Mohd Isa, Head of Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, who confirmed that OCBC Cycle KL 2025 will span an uninterrupted 25-kilometre loop through the heart of the city. Participants in the 50-kilometre category will tackle this scenic route twice. Roads will be closed for approximately two hours for the event, which will flag off at 6:45am in front of the iconic Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad. Cyclists will pedal past notable landmarks, including Menara OCBC, the headquarters of title sponsor OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank).

Carrying the theme “Let’s Go Cycle,” this year’s OCBC Cycle KL will present its most challenging course yet for the 3,000 registered riders. The two-loop 50-kilometre ride extends 8 kilometres beyond the previous edition, incorporating new stretches along Jalan Conlay and Jalan Kia Peng.

In addition to the individual 50km and 25km ride categories, the event will also feature the 50-kilometre corporate category, known as The KL Mayor’s Ride, for teams of ten.

Across all categories, cyclists will embark on an exhilarating journey through Kuala Lumpur’s famous streets, lush greenery, and iconic landmarks. The route will showcase must-see attractions such as the Petronas Twin Towers, Tugu Negara, Komplek Kraf, and Masjid Negara, offering a unique perspective of the city.

Following its resounding success last year, the Kids’ Push Bike category will return to OCBC Cycle KL 2025 at the same time and venue. This year, the age range has been expanded to include children aged 3 to 9 (previously 3 to 7), offering two distance options: 150 metres and 200 metres. The 200-metre ride is exclusively for 7- to 9-year-olds, providing an extra level of challenge.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri expressed his confidence in the event’s preparations, stating that all measures are well underway to ensure a safe, smooth, and successful event. “This annual mass cycling event in the heart of Kuala Lumpur promotes both a healthy sport and a go-green theme, and we are pleased to support it again as we have since the start. The safety of the 3,000 participants remains our utmost priority, and we look forward to a successful event where the community can come together and enjoy the scenic routes of Kuala Lumpur, riding safely and taking with them cherished memories,” he said.

Representing the title sponsor, Tuan Syed Abdull Aziz Syed Kechik, CEO of OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad, highlighted OCBC Bank’s continued commitment to bringing OCBC Cycle KL to the masses since its inception in 2015. He noted OCBC Bank’s prior involvement in OCBC Cycle Malaysia (2011-2013), KL Car-Free Morning (since 2015), and JB Car-Free Morning (since 2024).

“We are excited that 3,000 participants have signed up for the event, making it the largest number for OCBC Cycle KL thus far. I, for one, am eager to get on my bike again on Sunday, 27 April, to ride in the heart of the city centre! And not just that, I’m pleased to share that about 400 of my colleagues will be joining in the ride as well,” said Tuan Syed Abdull Aziz Syed Kechik.

He also expressed gratitude for the full support of the Police and confidence that this year’s route will provide an even better experience. “As a bank that seeks to enable people to realise their aspirations, we hope this 8th edition of OCBC Cycle KL, which remains the only mass-participation cycling event on closed roads in the heart of the city, will be another one to cherish as we have extended the ride to 50km and the kid’s push bike category to those up to 9 years old.”

In line with their sustainability efforts, Tuan Syed Abdull Aziz Syed Kechik affirmed that OCBC Cycle KL 2025 will continue to be environmentally friendly and sustainable through limited plastic use and a focus on preserving the surroundings, reflecting OCBC Bank’s broader sustainability agenda.
