Langkawi, 29 Sept – Astana Qazaqstan Team rider, Gleb Syritsa, sent a clear message to his rivals by dominating Stage 1 of the Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2024 in Kuah today. The Russian sprinter, who also won two stages in last year’s LTdL, showcased his exceptional speed and tactical prowess to secure a decisive victory in the 96.5-kilometer race.
Syritsa’s triumph not only earned him the coveted Green Jersey as the overall leader but also cemented his position as a force to be reckoned with in the King of Sprints competition. His teammate, Casper Van Uden from Team dsm-firmenich PostNL, finished second in the stage and claimed the second spot in the King of Sprints standings.
The mountainous terrain of the stage provided an opportunity for climbers to shine, and Tyler Tomkinson from Ara Skip Capital seized the moment, securing the Polka Dot Jersey for King of the Mountains. His impressive performance in the climbing zones showcased his climbing abilities and established him as a contender for the mountain classification.
Muhammad Nur Aiman Rosli from the Terengganu Cycling Team also made a significant impact, winning the White Jersey for Best Asian Rider. His consistent performance throughout the stage, including strong showings in both sprint zones and the climbing zone, highlighted his potential as a rising star in Asian cycling.
The second stage of the LTdL 2024 will take place on Monday, September 30th, starting from Arau, Perlis, and ending in Butterworth, Penang. With a distance of 154.5 kilometers, the stage will feature three sprint zones, offering further opportunities for sprinters to showcase their skills.
